"How can I improve the Humans vs. Zombies experience?"

Humans vs. Zombies is a campus wide game where humans shoot nerf guns and throw socks at their classmates turned zombies. This app enhances the HvZ experience by providing new features like live updates, helping humans to live to see another day and help zombies infect more prey.

goals & objectives

My goals for this project were simple. On a high level, I wanted to improve the experience for both human and zombie players. There is no app for this experience currently, so I had a blank slate and a lot of opportunity to play.

Provide an easy means to communicate and operate as a team.

Improve the daily missions experience

In order for humans to survive another day, they must complete the nightly mission. I wanted to create an organized place for humans and zombies to keep track of missions, as well as complete supplementary missions for additional points.

look & feel

I was heavily inspired by cartoon-styled applications. I am a huge admirer of applications that exhibit a great attention to detail and emulate a very specific style. I wanted to try my hand at an illustrated interface that accomplishes a fun, graphic style.

Home

Provide a hub for immediate access to all the features you need to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Profile

Receive your player stats on a real-time basis. Personalized based on your human or zombie status, you can keep track of how long you've been alive/infected, your kills/infected, and your level based on missions completed.

Mission Board

Stay up to date with the missions of the day, as well as extra missions that can be completed for extra points and achievements.

Map

Users can keep track of their team or spend points to turn on all zombies or humans locations.

Messages

Communicate with your team in an in-app messaging system.

conclusion

Drawing interfaces from scratch takes a lot of time and planning, but it can be so worth it. 

This is a project that's on my list to revise. I want to relook at the full flow of mission selecting, completion, and the granting of points, as well as look at refining additional features. In order to do this, I plan on partaking in the game this spring in order to really understand where an application of this nature could improve the gameplay experience.
