CORE FEATURES

This app aims to improve student's zombie slaying experience. Core features include a user profile, mission board, campus map, and messages.

FEATURE

Mission Board

Keep up to date with the missions of the day. Humans must complete these missions in order to survive the night, keeping the missions in a central location that is easily accessible enables humans to survive the day. Zombies must also complete zombie-specific missions. The mission board will only be populated with the missions for the specific type of species the player is registered as.

FEATURE

Profile

Users recieve their player stats on a real-time basis. If they are a zombie, their profile displays how many people they have infected, how long they have been infected for, and what level they are. If they are a human, their profile would display how many zombies slayed, how many days they have survived, and what level they are. Both profiles also display the players name and what team they are assosiated with.

FEATURE

Map

Introducing a new feature of the HvZ game, players locations go live in the campus map during the "witching hour". Users can complete missions or spend points they've earned to hide their location, or reveal the location of their opponents.

FEATURE

Messages

Communicate with your teammates to coordinate the perfect attack or escape. This in-app messaging system allows the user to stay focused on their zombie/human needs.

PROCESS

This process was a lot different than my previous projects. After understanding how the game is played, I began by researching successful illustration styles and complied the visual design inspiration to help me invision my own style. Instead of wireframing, I explored concepts through high fidelity sketches. From these sketches I was able to bring HvZ to life.

Visual Design Inspiration

I felt that Plants vs. Zombies, Borderlands, and Castle Crashers had successfully developed a graphic, fun style that I wanted to emulate in my own illustrations.

Final Sketches

These sketches were the base layers for all of my illustrations. They helped me visualize the information I needed to present and the overall composition. This was a nice break from pushing pixels, and an awesome outlet to stretch my hands out and get back to basic drawing.

FINAL COMPS

It was extremely refreshing and gratifying to see my final comps come from hand drawn sketches, versus pixel perfect wireframes. It was a change of pace and a try at a new design approach that was exciting to learn from.
